Q: What is Calculus?

A: Calculus, sometimes known as tartar, is a hard substance that forms on teeth when plaque is not properly removed. Calculus can cause chronic inflammation and infection if not removed by a dentist. Incidentally, once calculus forms, normal brushing will not remove it; only a dentist is able to do that.
