What causes teeth to become discolored?
Have you noticed that your smile just isn’t as bright as it used to be?
Several factors can cause teeth to become discolored:
- Using tobacco (cigarettes or smokeless tobacco) or drinking a lot of coffee or tea can stain teeth over time.
- Certain medications may affect tooth color if they are taken while the teeth are still developing.
- Too much fluoride intake can cause discoloration, a condition called fluorosis.
- Discoloration is also a normal process associated with aging. As tooth enamel wears down naturally over time, teeth become duller and less white.
The good news is that you don’t have to deal with a dull smile that ages your appearance.
